June 2 | The Monday Report
True learning happens through direct experience. Theory is helpful, but I can only truly know something by actively doing it and testing my knowledge in practice.
FITLETE Professional Update
The Resource Nexus
— The only updates from this past week were on the backend and organization side. These updates for my side take this project from “it works” to “it performs”, meaning that throughout the previous years, updates were made with the goal of adding more on top of existing work. Once this is done, everything will work together with less strung-together piecemeal construction. Not exciting, but it will make my life as a solopreneur easier as this project grows.
FITLETE Radio
Starting back up soon. The publishing goal will be:
New Coach Spotlight episodes every Friday evening.
Possibly a short 5-10 minute monologue episode highlighting a topic, article, or thought I have.
Then, I am scheduling my live interview Q&As with the season 1 guests. The show will still be in a Q&A format, not a conversational show, when it is published. As much as I enjoy talking with my fellow coaches, I personally want to have a different type of show than what’s already out there.
As always, it does not mean you will receive a flood of emails from me. Still just a Monday report every Monday evening. I trust that if you want to receive notifications of new podcast episodes, you will set it up on your preferred podcast listening platform or through the Substack app directly.
Fantastic podcasts I heard last week:
The Strength Coach Podcast— The future of gyms: fitness and healthcare unite with Mike Ranfone
Mike Ranfone, owner of Ranfone Training Systems, merges fitness and healthcare to revolutionize wellness. He discusses the innovative concept of personalized medical performance, including blood panels and DEXA scans, all under one roof. The conversation highlights real-life success stories of clients achieving peak health, regardless of age, and emphasizes the importance of collaboration between trainers and medical professionals. Ranfone also addresses the challenges of integrating these two fields, advocating for a proactive health model that focuses on healthspan over lifespan.
Founders— #389 The founder of JImmy Choo: Tamara Mellon
Tamara Mellon recounts her rollercoaster journey of launching a luxury shoe brand against the backdrop of personal struggles and family turmoil. She shares the wisdom from her father's caution about letting accountants dictate her vision. The narrative dives into her battles with mental health and a turbulent marriage while juggling the pressures of entrepreneurship. Mellon also reflects on the relentless fight for quality against profit-driven partners, revealing the emotional strain of maintaining control over her brand. Her story underscores the resilience needed to triumph in both business and life.
Chasing Common Ground— Chasing Change: Overcoming fitness and life plateaus with Alex McBrairty
In this enlightening chat, fitness coach Alex McBrairty shares his wisdom on overcoming life's and fitness plateaus. He discusses the dangers of perfectionism in routines and underscores the value of embracing imperfect workouts. Alex emphasizes the importance of a Minimum Activity Plan to maintain momentum and personal growth. The duo also dives into the psychological aspects of motivation, community support, and redefining success in fitness, urging listeners to focus on genuine experiences that foster self-efficacy and well-being.
This week, Sahil Bloom, a bestselling author and former Division I baseball player, dives deep into the concept of wealth—beyond just money. He shares how he redefined success, emphasizing 'time wealth' and the importance of intentional living. Bloom discusses the psychological benefits of fitness, the art of mastering time management, and cherishing family moments in a busy world. He offers practical strategies for prioritizing what truly matters, urging listeners to rethink their values for a more fulfilled life.
In this discussion, Lyle McDonald, a nutrition expert, dives into the constrained model of energy expenditure, challenging its assumptions about exercise and weight loss. He critiques misconceptions surrounding popular studies and outlines the limitations of the Hadza data. McDonald emphasizes that exercise is still vital for fat loss and overall health, despite claims of it being ineffective. He advocates for a balanced approach to both diet and physical activity, urging listeners to reject the notion that movement doesn't matter in the calorie-burning equation.
Here’s a link to download Snipd, the podcast app I use to make a “notebook” of A.I. transcripts, bookmarks within episodes, and take notes on each podcast I hear! They have a free app you can use or, with this link, you get 1 month of their Premium version for free: 1 Free Month Of Premium Snipd.
Personal Update
— A pretty exciting end of the week for me. I received three new reviews on my Google page and gained a new client. These two things play into one another because the last two new clients I have been able to add to my book have both come to me as completely cold leads, and were directly from Google Maps. They both said facility photos, reviews, and having working links to a website were all green flags for them to book a consultation. Then, when they got to my training website, they said it was easy to understand who I worked with and what I offered. It’s not a fancy site by any means, but I think it has everything to take the next step without being overwhelming and reach the people I want to work with.
Thanks for including mine and Chris' podcast episode this week!
