What is Your Fitness Goal?
This and variations of this question are some of the more popular ones to someone involved in the world of health and wellness. There is one step you have to take just after forming the goal and taking actions toward it.
You need to at least be able to have a “because” to have a goal.
The because is the root reason for any goal. It may seem too simple, and I understand that. Just slow down a little bit and take care of the little things first. We often over complicate things when the answer can be so very simple. It really does not matter what your “because” is; it really matters that you actually have a “because” that matters to you and only you.
In the beginning your reason/because might be very general towards your goal. getting a more specific reason will require you to open up and be honest with yourself. It doesn’t matter if your reason ends up being motivated by a positive or negative influences; if you want to change your body that “because” why will come to you eventually, just be ready to accept it.
Why is it important to have because?
A reason can do a few things.
It actually gives that goal a purpose. A goal without a REAL reason your goal are are just words that make an short sentence.
*Goal Example: ” I want Cheese”
*Goal Example with a Generic Reason: ” I want cheese. I want cheese because I want to make a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch”
*Goal Example With a Root Reason: “I want Cheese. I want cheese because I want to make a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. I am having a bad day and Every time I eat a Grilled Cheese I think of the story my dad told me. He was lazy and used to use vertical toaster to make the grilled cheese in one step.He would put both pieces of bread in one slot and place the cheese toward the top between the bread so, when it melted in the toaster it would melt between the bread without dripping inside toaster and burning. It makes me laugh”.
If you were to make a statement to someone The first example would receive a reaction like…“good for you….weirdo”; while the second one could be the start of a friendly conversation and possibly lunch plans to make a grilled cheese sandwiches on a regular. The Third example would be opening up during conversation between two people and the real reason why a grilled cheese sandwich fit perfect for the day. I know my example is kind of weird and random but it is able to express the point i want to get across and it just so happens to be a true story about how my dad used to “chef up” a grilled cheese as a kid. No matter the goal or reason, both are needed to make a complete thought.
Down the road toward your goal you can look back at this “because” and see if what you are doing is really leading you toward achieving your goal. If you find you have progressed passed the initial “because” then it maybe time to make a new one, or maybe you look back and see you have gotten off track. This initial “because” /reason can help you redirect your efforts back on track.
In summary.
Relax, take a step back and think simple thoughts.
Ask yourself what you want and make that your goal. It does not matter what others may think. Your goal is YOUR goal so, embrace it.
In a separate question ask yourself why you want this to be your goal and come up with an answer. Do not worry if you need time to think about it; the reason may hit you when you least expect it too.
