Personal Update
It feels good to build things and see your vision take shape. I never dreamed of being an “entrepreneur.” Through my experiences, I realized that there were aspects of working for others I didn’t enjoy and found frustrating, and I liked having the ability to take control of my direction through some sweat equity.
My sister and parents are coming to Miami in a few weeks, and I am excited they will get the chance to see the physical results of the work. The HQ has become a haven for me to focus, evaluate, and execute. While I didn’t always need my own space to do those things, I believe at this stage in my career and development, there is a definite advantage to having a place solely dedicated to my vocation.
Fantastic podcasts I heard last week.
A16z Podcast- The real price of health care with Marck Cuban
Sigma Nutrition Radio- #518: Nutritional Geometry, Philosophy of Science & A Case for Reductionism – Prof. David Raubenheimer & Jonathan Sholl, PhD
Founders Podcast- #345 George Lucas
Here’s a link to download Snipd, the podcast app I use to make a “notebook” of A.I. transcripts, bookmarks on episodes, and take notes on each podcast I hear! They have a free app you can use or, with this link, you get 1 month of their Premium version for free: 1 Free Month Of Premium Snipd
Professional Update
Version 1 of the equipment directory is ready for the show!
This version focuses on three things: USA-owned companies, Made-in-USA products, and Local pick-up availability.
This version's directory is only for USA-based companies, so you will only find results within the USA. The filters for Made in USA and Local Pick up work independently from one another; you can view all available options or filter for your higher-level priority.
If you are like me, then your budget isn't just a random number; it’s something you have to stick to. The ability to find a local manufacturer/supplier that fits your needs and allows you to use your budget more effectively instead of shipping costs. I know some companies will display their products with “free shipping,” but the reality is that most of them are simply increasing the price of the product to cover some or all of the shipping costs, so the savings you think you’re getting aren’t as much.
When you click on a pin marker on the map, you will see some important but general information:
Comapny name at the top in big bold print
their location
a short company description
If they are veteran-owned
what type of products they have in their stores. (USA Made, Import + USA made, Import Only)
If they display their local pick-up option
if they have an affiliate or ambassador program
If they have financing available.
Their direct sales website
If they have their products listed on Amazon, there will be an active link to their Amazon store.
As this project develops, there will be other ways to view and search for the things you need.
