Personal Update
Wodapalooza was just about a week ago and it was really fun to meet all the people who came into town to either compete or to watch. It’s funny the number of people you can unintentionally meet just by being in a location where others are gathering for something. I’m not particularly interested in the event on either end, but I enjoy meeting people and it’s always interesting to see a group of like-minded individuals gather together around something. Perhaps that is why I enjoy in-person education events.
Fantastic Podcast(s) I listened to last week
Hidden Brain from January 9th, Who is in Your Inner Circle.
If you think about the people in your life, it's likely that they share a lot in common with you. Maybe they like the same kinds of food, or enjoy the same hobbies. But, if you dig a little deeper, you may find that they share much more: they might make the same amount of money as you, or share the same race. This week, we talk with economists Luigi Pistaferri and Matthew Jackson about why we often surround ourselves with people who are just like us — and how we can transform our lives by pushing back against this phenomenon.
There is a specific part of this show that talks about “The Importance of chance encounters” and their impact on your overall career in any profession, they even mention going to in-person events. For us, meeting like-minded people is part of the largest benefit of going to these in-person workshops and events. They discussed this specifically as something you should weigh into your decision of attending meetings where you don’t know anyone. You can’t always see how building one new relationship at a conference, or local get-together, becoming a regular at your local coffee shop, or hanging out at a cigar lounge can impact your future for the better, but doing so can increase your likelihood of finding people who can help you build the life you are looking to build.

There will be a lot of changes in the coming weeks. Some are scary and some that seem so simple you will question why they weren’t done sooner.
