Whether you are looking to change the gym layout for a fresh new look, add a new piece of equipment, or change facilities entirely, you need to have an easy, accurate way to make changes without needing to move equipment around. The most obvious solution is to have a digital copy of your gym to move equipment around. It’s convenient, and doesn’t require you to actually move any equipment around “just to test it out”.

I needed to do just that, but I’m a personal trainer and gym manager without the time or energy to learn new skills to use these programs built for architects and interior designers. Well, I did some searching and found the best tool for those like me. Once I walked around the gym and took the measurements I needed I got a full gym layout completely finished in 1 hour!

As always, I won’t bury the lead here. I am going to be talking about “Floor Plan Creator”.

The I built facility is about 5,500 square feet and this is what the initial finished product looked like.

Here are the biggest assets Floor Plan Creator has over the other online floor plan options online are:

1. Runs smoothly on all devices, even on smaller mobile devices without the need for an App.

2. The interface is so simple to understand without the need to watch a tutorial or look up “how to” videos on Youtube.

3. Everything is drag, drop and rotate ready.

4. Set up and switch between Metric or Imperial units.

5. The 2D Overhead view is the only view you need to build in. No need for 3D visuals and building on multiple planes.

6. Create multiple floors in one design project.

7. Automatically calculates dimensions, area, perimeter, and distance between objects attached to walls.

There a few limitations, but they are really minor:

1. It’s not meant for gyms so, you’re not going to see pre-built items you would typically see in a gym. You’ll have to build them. You can do that as detailed or as simple(like I did) as you want.

2. You can only colorize items and not add textures.

3. The 3D view options are quite basic, but I don’t see this as a big downside because you really only need a realistic 3D rendering if you’re building these layouts as a service and want a 3D render to show clients. Even then it’s not even required.
