A little Pre-recap context: Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning (MBSC) is a premier training organization founded by Mike Boyle in 1997, a renowned strength coach with over 30 years of experience. “Find great coaches and steal their stuff.”
-Mike Boyle
2025 was my third year in a row attending the Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning Center’s Spring Seminar
Attending this event year after year has given me the chance to connect with other coaches from around the country and around the world, developing deep and meaningful connections. I am so grateful to have MBSC so close to where I live and to have the chance to learn and grow and network there year after year.
EP#6 Trainer Spotlight Series: Meet Lorelei Capuzzi
We get to know Lorelei Capuzzi in this Trainer spotlight episode of FITLETE Radio.
Mike Boyle kicked off the weekend’s events.
“When your name is on the building, they let you do what you want,” he said. Then he talked a bunch of shit. Literally.
He explained that the body has four systems: Cardiovascular, Muscular, Neuromuscular and Digestion/Disposal. He argued that while we can train the first three, we have to simply maintain the fourth. He highlighted the importance of sufficient water and fiber intake in order to keep our digestive/disposal system running smoothly and encouraged us, as coaches, to start having these “shitty” conversations with our clients.
Pete Dupuis, co-founder of Cressey Sports Performance, gave a presentation focused on sales and marketing, showcasing the impact that Behavioral Science has on consumers.
He explained multiple ways we can (ethically) influence a potential buyer, including capitalizing on the Fresh Start Effect. Think of New Year’s Day, a major milestone birthday or even just a Monday where people are more likely to make a massive change (purchase).
Vinny Talluto, a coach and newly minted co-owner of Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning Center, lectured on Coaching Pregnant Clients.
He focused on the various considerations required to make their programming both safe and effective for themselves and their future child. He discussed three major pillars to focus on when creating a training plan for this demographic: Build, Adapt and Support. He discussed building a base of quality movement and strength while adapting to postural changes, balance shifts and pressure management issues that can come with pregnancy. Lastly, he stressed supporting these clients while prioritizing their comfort and the importance of breath work.
David Gray is a rehab therapist specializing in helping athletes solve “unsolvable” pain and injuries.
He gave an extensive deep dive into the training and rehabilitation of the foot and ankle. He encouraged coaches to think of the person over their pathology and to solve the biggest, most obvious problem first, using simplicity over complexity.
Kevin Carr is a Coach, Licensed Massage Therapist, Author, and co-owner of both the Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning Center as well as Movement As Medicine.
He tackled the subject of cardiovascular health and its importance for overall health while reminding the meatheads in the room that strength training fulfills 0% of the recommendations for cardiovascular activity! He also encouraged us to remember that for the general population, training in ANY heart rate zone is beneficial and that finding what they can and WILL do is imperative.
Jess Tolman, Strength Coach and Certified Functional Strength Coach Educator, spoke about MBSC’s adult programming.
She highlighted the pillars of the MBSC model of coaching which include: total body training, compound movements, favoring unilateral work, minimizing risk while maximizing reward and administering the minimum effective dose.
Ben Connolly, MBSC Coach, CFSC educator, and Ancore Ambassador, closed the Seminar with a presentation on single-leg training.
He argued that it’s particularly advantageous because it limits the risk of harm, reduces performance-related injuries, while improving overall performance because it requires significantly less load to challenge the athlete. He explained that single leg training also introduces a new limiting factor. Both bilateral and unilateral leg training works lower body strength and trunk stability while only single leg training challenges multiplanar stability.
The MBSC Spring Seminar is an incredible event that showcases some of the world's best coaches and experts. The facility itself is a coach’s paradise, and the entire MBSC staff is incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and just all-around amazing humans.
