Personal Update
I’ve had some clients away on vacation this past weeks or 2 and knowing they are coming back is both exciting and stressful. I enjoy working with them, but it feels nice to get a quick breather every once in a while. I’m also looking forward to my mini vacation/anniversary trip this weekend. We are heading to Philadelphia, PA for a few days and I’m ready to dive into some history of the city and just explore some new places with Nikki. We’ve been together since 2008!!
Cool Podcast I listened to last week
The Mind Muscle Project Episode 1084: Why 95% of personal trainers are broke.
It’s a short episode worth listening to because it highlights some of the common mistakes a young professional can make while they grow their new business into a career. It’s easy to listen and my favorite part was them talking about having a mentor in the place you are working because a lot of times other trainers are seen as “the competition” instead of a member of the team. That needs to change and be a way everyone can get a seat at the table to eat.
Their episode description is absolute garbage so don’t bother reading it for more info, it’s just ads; what a waste.
Education and Career tools Update
We work in a profession that wants to boast the “24/7 grind and hustle”, “no days off”, and “I’ll sleep when I die” type mindsets. No matter how cool you think you sound in the moment, It’s not realistic. We need to take time off and everybody knows it, but the problem is we work in an industry where the service provider(sometimes no matter how successful) does not get paid time off.
You need to make an effort to find ways of keeping your income streams flowing and be able to take vacations. You will have a hard time lasting in the career if you are always spending money to take a vacation while also losing income because you can’t charge clients for services while you’re on vacation.
That should be your next priority, and until you figure that out you can always reduce the costs of a luxury vacation by finding one you can do a little bit of work during your stay.
