Personal Update
A sound mind and a sound body are short but full descriptions of a happy state in this world. ~John Locke
I’ve been busy, stressed, frustrated, disappointed, and excited all at once this past month while thinking about the future. As long as I remembered this very simple quote I was able to bring myself back to the present and remind myself that the simple things in life that I already have matter more than all the things yet to happen.
Fantastic Podcast I listened to last week
The Active Life Podcast- Episode 161: Radical Honesty with Bradley Mckee
Brad is a gym owner and sheds some light on what he thinks makes a good gym in terms of the community to build with members, how pricing your service can help you reach the people you want, delivering a warm personal marketing message that doesn’t feel too robotic or automated, and lastly about delivering on a service the best you can.
While not directly related to the fitness industry he also believes in a philosophy that he calls radical honesty where you are a “straight shooter” but not blatantly trying not to hurt feelings. He said this paired with a good amount of continued reading has helped him form his own voice in his marketing and copywriting.
Education and Career tools Update
October starts the news updates season! Be on the lookout for new events and seminars for the new year. Traditionally at this time most organizations will stop making new plans for the end of the year but start getting set up for the new year coming.
The online directory is still being updated as well! The next update will add around 200 more education courses that you can filter by topic, CEU pre-approval, and price range.
One section I am excited about is the new FREE table of education courses. This table will be pre-filtered to only include online learning opportunities that cost $0. Freely available courses and information are good introductions to learning from new people and organizations without adding stress to the budget. I really want to do this with the live/virtual events too, but it is proving to be a little difficult to manage at the moment.
