Personal Update
We did some impromptu “spring cleaning” and decorating this past weekend around the apartment. I added a 6-foot privacy fence of bamboo reeds to our balcony and then Nikki and I decided to start paring down some of our belongings starting in the closet.
For me this is a reminder that little things like these can be a refreshing boost to your overall mood. They made me feel accomplished and productive on the weekend without it feeling like it was work or a forced activity. I like little reminders that I can make small changes and adjustments to my life in order to stay on track and assess my habits or tendencies. Who knew getting rid of some clothes and decorating would be the catalyst?
Fantastic Podcast I listened to last week
The Revive Stronger Podcast 327: Proximity-To-Failure And Its Influence On Muscle Hypertrophy - Martin Refalo
There are two reasons I enjoyed this episode.
First is the subject matter. I enjoy reading and listening to content surrounding this topic because it really is probably the most relevant subject matter for training the general population(in my opinion). They are not talking about rep and set schemes, periodization protocols, exercise selection methods, or assessments.
Second is the differences in what is defined as “failure” training. Understanding exactly what someone is talking about is paramount to fully grasping or challenging the points someone is making. This episode goes over the different ways “training to failure” is typically defined when being studied. 1 or 2 of these definitions might sound similar to how you would define it, but that doesn’t mean it is defined that way all the time.
This episode shows how important is it not to take a simplified phrase at face value when the definition can be ambiguous. This happens a lot within the fitness industry with words like “healthy”. Healthy has so many ways it can be used or defined it can be incredibly difficult to understand what it means without understanding more context and the points of view someone is using it from.
