Personal Update
As you know I love listening to podcasts, and now after a short month testing period I found a really awesome podcast player that has some amazing features, and is FREE for all mobile platforms! It’s called Snipd. The absolute best thing about this app is that it’s AI can create chapters, transcribes each episode, and allows you to take “snips” aka notes/bookmarks of a part of the episode you liked. It will them save them for you per episode and add them to your “snips notebook” to use or share with others later. Another cool thing is once an episode has gone through their AI it’s available to the public, and they will compile the most popular “snips” taken and share them when you view the episode. I highly recommend you use this app if you like learning from podcasts, and referring to episodes you’ve listened to in the past. (this is not an ad for them, I just really like it)
This week’s really cool podcast to listen to is:
“ Science VS Podcast”
June 2nd Episode- Placebo: Can the mind cure you?
Description: Could fake medicine actually take away your pain or treat disease? We dig into the science of placebos to learn more about the power of the mind to heal. We speak to medical researcher Prof. Ted Kaptchuk, neuroscientist Prof. Fabrizio Benedetti and medical psychologist Prof. Manfred Schedlowski.
I find the effects of placebo so fascinating and find some parallels when I think of the clients I have and will work with. This is precise because of the findings where benefits were shown in things like experiences of pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and nausea; all things (maybe not always depression) experienced within the training process. One of the most fascinating sections of the podcast to me was the experiment that was done on hypoxia and oxygen usage for high-altitude mountain climbers and the associated symptoms. A quick summary is: The study followed almost a Pavlovian conditioning flow where participants who were given oxygen to offset symptoms then without changing the tool or delivery method were no longer supplied with extra oxygen but believed they were being given some and thus didn’t feel symptoms of hypoxia!
