Personal Update
Details, details details. Want to know what matters more than you may think? Nailing the little things just as much as the big stuff. A lot of people can nail the big stuff and look like they are doing a good job, but it’s the person who leaves no stone unturned that sets themselves apart. I had an encounter this week with someone whose baseline standard for themselves is “it’s not that bad”, or “it’s not that broken”. I’m unsure if I know how to put it into words well enough to get my point across, but they pretty much set their standard at the absolute bare minimum. It just sucked the energy right out of me.
This week’s really cool podcast to listen to is:
The Sport Psych Show with Dan Abrahams Episodes #120 & #194 with Doug Lemov
Even though these two episodes are separated by quite a few they are actually parts 1 and 2 of a discussion about “A Coaches Guide to Teaching” which is the title of Doug’s book. I haven’t read the book so this was both a good introduction to it and a good intro to talking about something that we all do with our clients and athletes in every single encounter we have with them, coach. He takes a lot of principles and the science that surrounds classroom teaching and applies it to the sports and coaching realms.
