Description
Life’s too short to be half right! Veteran podcasters Mike “Silent Mike” Farr and Jim McDonald try to answer a single question without any research — then ask an expert what they got right or wrong. Any question is fair game, but most involve health, fitness, nutrition, mental health, culture…even sex. They walk away with a better sense of the facts…and so do you.
Ads Rating: 85
They only have a mid roll ad and It wouldn't be that interruptive if they kept it short.. I understand the need to talk about the episode sponsor, but it’s a bit interruptive when they talk about the sponsor and then kind of ramble their thoughts and opinions on it also.
Banter Rating: 50
It’s called 50% facts and they stick to it 100% having at a minimum half the show just be banter and somewhat entertaining rambles surrounding the topic.
Structure Rating: 75
For the most part they stick to a format a lot of rambling around while introducing the topic of the day, run a show sponsor ad, then introduce the “expert of the day” to give the actual beneficial info about the topic at hand.
Podcast Notes Rating: 85
The show notes are done pretty much inline with the structure of the show. They give a good quality background for the episode and some of the questions they have as hosts surrounding the topic. One really awesome plus is they were awesome enough to add in the time during the episode where the “expert of the day”comes in to answer the questions. If you are only looking to get the answered this will save you about 50% of the shows run time. It would be a great plus if they would include hyperlinks to the things they talk about in the episode or a link to a blog site where the links for the episode are displayed.
Podcast Titles Rating: 85
No episode numbers in the title, which makes things difficult for finding info if you ever reference anything in a future episode. some podcast players don’t display the number of episodes in a catalog. The actual titles are really simple and include the question being asked and the guest bring interviewed.
Audio Quality Rating: 90
Great audio quality from the hosts and the guests that come on the show. I haven't listened to an episode that sounded really poor yet.
My Final Score: C+
I like the idea of the show being a bit casual but, I think they stray too far into the casual aspect of the show too often. Once they get the show moving along the topics are actually really good and work really well at talking to the general population. If they were able to tighten up the banter and the mid roll ads then I think they have a great potential to reach an audience outside of the enthusiast.
